CBA job cuts – your rights and union feedback
CBA has proposed another round of job cuts. This time, 274 jobs are…
To no one’s surprise, CBA is officially a criminal for ripping off workers again.
The bank pled guilty to criminal charges on Monday in the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court for failing to pay more than $69,000 in long service leave entitlements owed to staff. But during the investigation it was found they had underpaid 529 current and former staff more than $1.6 million in long service leave entitlements.
The amount CBA owed to individual workers ranged from $500 to more than $10,000. These amounts are likely a pittance to CBA, but to a worker struggling to make ends meet during a cost of living crisis, $10,000 is a huge amount of money that could make a big difference for any family.
We all know this isn’t the first time CBA has been caught out for stealing money from workers – they were fined $10.3 million earlier this year by the Federal Court for a massive $16 million in wage theft.
CBA has been asking Bankwest workers to trust them on their new Enterprise Agreement when they’ve already proposed over 40 cuts and changes to our hard-fought working conditions. Needless to say they’ve showed us time and time again they clearly can’t be trusted to do the right thing by workers.
If you are a Bankwest worker, make sure you commit to voting no if CBA puts this dodgy deal to a ballot. Don’t trust them not to turn us into CBA Lite.

The bank has now been fined $36,000 for not paying long service leave entitlements but we all know it’s pocket change for the richest bank in Australia.
While it’s great to see CBA held to account in court (next to shoplifters and drunk drivers no less), fines like this are little deterrent to a company that turns well over $10 billion in profits annually. So it’s up to all of us to make sure they don’t get away with it.
