Clarification on requirement to take annual leave – Know your rights

We wanted to provide some clarity about a Westpac management communication that was sent in late September to Commercial Relationship Banking staff regarding annual leave.

In the communication, staff were advised to take their full four-week entitlement of annual leave and reduce their accrual balance to 10 days. FSU members should be aware of their rights around the requirement to take annual leave.

The FSU has contacted Westpac management representatives who have confirmed that staff are not required to utilise all four weeks of annual leave accrual or have an accrual balance of less than 10 days by 30 September 2024.

Any direction to do so is unreasonable and not provided for within the Westpac Enterprise Agreement 2023.

As always, if you have issues with a directive to take annual leave or any other matter and would like advice or support, please contact our Member Rights Centre on 1300 366 378 – Monday to Friday 7.30am to to 5.30pm (SA time).
