Cuts to Branch Support Managers underscore the need for job security

CBA is proposing to cut the number of Branch Support Managers (BSM) by 18 employees. These cuts are deeply concerning, given the vital role BSMs play in supporting other branch staff (particularly Area Managers and Branch Managers).

We anticipate the effects will be felt across CBA’s branch network, with less support and higher workloads for all staff, particularly Branch Managers.

EOI process to replace cherry picking

CBA has proposed trialling an early consultation approach by calling for expressions of interest to better understand employees’ preferences.

While this approach is preferable to management simply cherry picking for redundancies (and something our union has been pushing CBA to implement so that you have greater choice and control over your employment), we understand this is still a difficult time for those directly affected and our union is here to support you.

If you have any concerns about what this means for your work or if you are impacted by these changes, please reply to this email and we’ll be in touch.

These cuts are exactly why FSU members are calling on CBA to provide better job security and safer staffing and workloads in our new Enterprise Agreement. We’re also seeking to formalise in our Agreement the sort of consultative approach outlined above – specifically, requiring CBA to seek expressions of interest for voluntary redundancies and interest in alternative roles where redundancies are required.

Our Agreement is our golden opportunity to secure the sort of future we want at CBA for the next few years. You can read more about what we’re seeking and support our campaign here.
