Further CBA job cuts highlight the need for a stronger Agreement

Despite recently posting a record $11 billion profit, CBA has this week announced 232 jobs are being impacted across the bank, with 172 positions expected to be made redundant.

Once again, Technology workers in Sydney are facing the brunt of the cuts, with jobs also impacted across Business Banking, Chief Operations Office, Institutional Banking and Markets, Retail Banking Services, Financial Services, Risk Management and Human Resources.

We know this is difficult and uncertain news for those affected. CBA workers have rights under our Enterprise Agreement, including rights to consultation when changes and redundancies are proposed.

Job security must be at the heart of our new Agreement

These latest cuts bring the number of jobs CBA has reduced since January to more than 1000. At the same time, CBA has closed, or announced plans to close, 28 metropolitan branches.

This is exactly why job security must be at the heart of our new Enterprise Agreement.

FSU members are seeking stronger protections around changes and redundancies, as well as a commitment to upskill and train Australian-based workers for jobs of the future, rather than cutting jobs or moving the work to CBA India.

CBA is one of the richest banks in the world. They can well afford to provide the sort of job security employees are demanding.
