We’ve just wrapped up our FSU information sessions on MyState’s proposed Enterprise Agreement and want to address some of the issues that were raised by members that all MyState employees need to know ahead of voting in next week’s ballot.
Myth:If we vote ‘no’, we won’t get a pay rise.
Busted! Trust us, we’ve heard this one before. Ask your colleagues at NAB, Bank of Queensland, and Australian Retirement Trust, who all voted ‘no’ in their most recent Agreement ballots. Not only did they get a pay rise, they got a better offer overall.
Myth:But management have said there is no more money remaining in the ‘pot’.
Busted! Whether it’s money in a pot, a pie, or a bucket – they all come in various sizes and can be increased. It’s about priorities and how much MyState values its employees.
Myth:If we vote ‘no’, we won’t get any back pay.
Busted! MyState has panicked, and are saying this to convince you to take the current offer. Should the offer be rejected, we will demand that the first pay increase be paid in July. MyState has demonstrated that a pay increase on 1 July is possible, because that’s what they are offering right now. So there is no excuse for taking back pay off the table.
Myth:Management won’t negotiate anymore after a ‘no’ vote.
Busted! MyState has an obligation under the Fair Work Act to negotiate in good faith, which compels them to come to the table. Rest assured, we will make sure they do.
Myth:Management could drag this out after a ‘no’ vote.
Busted! We will demand urgent negotiations continue following a ‘no’ outcome. Throughout this process, we have met with MyState weekly. There is no reason why this cannot continue. Should there be any unnecessary delays, we can raise the matter with the Fair Work Commission.
Myth:Management will know how I voted.
Busted! The voting process is confidential and is conducted by an independent voting company. No one will know how you vote unless you disclose it.
