Suncorp: Initial meetings on your pay and conditions at Suncorp

We’ve had our first bargaining meetings with Suncorp management for a new Enterprise Agreement (EA). Last week, we discussed our agenda for a better Suncorp EA based on critical feedback from members.

Our agenda includes:

  • Industry-leading pay and conditions, with a guaranteed pay increase that will provide certainty for everyone.
  • Inclusive leave provisions, including personal leave and paid parental leave for all Suncorp employees.
  • Work-from-home flexibility to be embedded in the EA.

You can review our full agenda here.

As negotiations continue, it’s essential that we stand together and support our FSU agenda. If you haven’t already, pledge your support below:

What has Suncorp proposed?

Suncorp have yet to respond to our FSU position. However, they have provided a broad outline of their agenda for a new EA, which includes:

  • Three year duration.
  • “Modernise” the existing EA and ensure it is compliant with changes to laws since it was last negotiated.
  • Meal breaks can be foregone by agreement if working a shift of six hours or less. This is proposed to reflect what is outlined in the Banking and Finance Industry Award.
  • Standardise how hours of work are applied to part time employees.
  • Review leave entitlements.
  • Clarify how rostered employees on fixed salaries are defined (i.e. when regularly rostered to work outside of ordinary hours).

Our FSU bargaining representatives will seek more detail in coming meetings, and we will ensure members are kept informed. Discussions around pay will also be discussed in the coming weeks.

Why it’s critical we all get behind our FSU position and pledge our support?

With the cost of living continuing to rise, securing a strong, guaranteed pay increase is more crucial than ever. While inflation hit 7.8% in 2022, Suncorp’s profits soared thanks to the significant contributions made by all of us.

Now is the time for Suncorp executives to recognise our hard work over the past three years and deliver a pay increase that reflects this.

Other FSU members in the insurance industry have already seen success:

  • IAG members secured annual increases of 3.2% for lower bands and 2.5% for higher levels over three years.
  • BUPA Insurance members achieved a 4.3% annual pay rise.
  • Zurich guaranteed a 2.5% increase for lower classification employees, with additional potential based on performance.

We can achieve similar wins at Suncorp, but we need everyone engaged and on board. If you are not yet an FSU member, now is the best time to join to ensure that we win the best pay and working conditions.
