You may have heard about Chhim Sithar, an imprisoned trade union leader who has bravely stood up for workers’ rights in Cambodia.
As President of the Labour Rights Supported Union (LRSU) of Khmer Employees at NagaWorld Casino, Sithar has tirelessly fought for justice. Despite facing harsh retaliation from the Cambodian authorities, she has never backed down from her commitment to workers’ rights.
But now she needs our help.
Petition to free union leader Chhim Sithar
In a blatant misuse of the criminal justice system, Cambodian authorities arrested Sithar on her return from Australia. Charged with “incitement to commit a felony” without any presented evidence, she was violently apprehended and held in pretrial detention for 74 days.
We believe that the upcoming elections in Cambodia on 23 July present a unique opportunity to exert pressure on the regime. Now’s the time to join us in calling on the Cambodian authorities to release Chhim Sithar immediately and unconditionally and to drop all charges against her.
As union members, we stand together in our commitment to human and workers’ rights. Let’s show our solidarity and demand justice for Chhim Sithar and her fellow unionists.
Please sign our petition urging Prime Minister Hun Sen to stop the attacks on trade unions and free Chhim Sithar.
