Westpac offshoring 190 jobs – FSU support

As you may be aware, Westpac has announced that approximately 190 jobs will be offshored from Mortgage Operations, Westpac Institutional Banking, Customer Solutions and Customer and Corporate Services.

These jobs will predominantly be lost in South Australia and New South Wales, although the impact will be felt broadly across the Westpac group.

Westpac has said most of these roles will be redeployed to other comparable roles, and therefore the bank will not be offering voluntary redundancies at this time. Instead, it will consider the individual preferences of those who remain in any onshore roles.

Concerningly, the bank has also decided to transition all outsource management and ethical review activity to existing partner Concentrix.

The FSU condemns these decisions. We understand they will have significant impacts on workers and our livelihoods.

We have seen what can happen when important work is sent offshore. Something as important as ethics being offshored can create dangerous implications and have flow on effects.

The bank recentlyposted a net profit of $7 billion, so workers and their families are understandably outraged and anxious about the bank’s decision to put profits before people. The bank can afford to keep Australian jobs in Australia.
