We’ve lodged a dispute with Unity Bank in the Fair Work Commission

Thank you to everyone who joined last week’s stop-work meeting. We had a huge turnout, and the overwhelming message from FSU members was clear: we reject Unity Bank’s position that the G&C Agreement should form the basis of our new combined Unity Bank Enterprise Agreement.

Instead, the current Unity Bank Enterprise Agreement should be the starting point for negotiations.

Today, the FSU lodged a bargaining dispute with the Fair Work Commission seeking its assistance to resolve this issue.

Why this matters

Unity Bank’s flawed approach would create two sets of working conditions, with new employees receiving different entitlements from former Unity Bank employees.

As more employees are hired, it will become harder to protect the conditions Unity Bank employees have today.

It would also mean key Unity Bank entitlements would not extend to G&C employees and could become harder to retain in future negotiations, including:

  • 14% superannuation
  • Five weeks’ annual leave and 27.5% leave loading
  • Long service leave of 1.3 weeks per year, with pro-rata access after five years, plus 27.5% leave loading
  • 16 weeks’ paid parental leave for primary carers
  • Travelling expenses, non-uniform allowance and prescription glasses reimbursement
  • Redundancy pay of up to 15 months for employees who commenced after 1 July 2017, and uncapped redundancy pay for those employed before then.

Employees earning more than $97,905 would also not be entitled to overtime.

Protect your entitlements

If you’re not already an FSU member, joining means you’ll have the union representing your interests as we challenge Unity Bank’s position and fight to protect the conditions you rely on.

If these conditions matter to you, now is the time to join.

We’ll keep members updated as the dispute progresses.
