Why you should NOT sign AMP’s new employment contract

We are aware that AMP employees have been issued new employment contracts to sign and return by Monday 24 March 2025.

After careful review from our industrial experts, we are advising members not to sign it. This is a terrible contract that has the potential to disadvantage you and strip away many of your rights and entitlements.

We have written to AMP today demanding changes –you can read our letter here. Don’t sign the contract until you hear back from us.

Some of the more disturbing elements of the contract include:

  • Annualised salary – this means you would receive a ‘total fixed package’, which is a salary that is inclusive of all overtime, penalty rates, loadings and superannuation (for some people those entitlements are currently separate from salary).
  • Privacy clause that ultimately means AMP can give your personal information to any third party that it wants. This includes using your personal data for whatever suits their business needs.
  • Workplace surveillance – AMP would be able to carry out ongoing and invasive surveillance, even at your home, with only one day’s notice to you.
  • A medical examination clause that says you may be required to be examined by a medical practitioner of AMP’s choice to determine your fitness for work. AMP would be able to obtain these results, meaning you are giving up your right to privacy between you and your doctor.
  • The ability for AMP to change your work location any time.

These elements are just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more alarm bells ringing when we look closely at the new contracts. We’ve marked up our concerns, which you can read for yourself here.

Too much power shifted to AMP

Furthermore, it’s not just what’s in the contract but what’s not in it. Because AMP refuses to bargain for a new Enterprise Agreement (EA), everything is in policy, meaning AMP can remove or change things at any time.

For example, the new contract does not contain details of any guaranteed pay increase, leave or redundancy entitlements.

Our advice: do not sign it. While the offer of a $1000 share-plan may be tempting in the immediate term, you could be worse off in the long term.

A better deal for employees

Our union, the FSU, has written to AMP today with our concerns and to demand they either revise these contracts in response to our feedback, or commence negotiations with us for a new EA that genuinely protects staff (which we have been calling on AMP to do for well over a year – you canfind out more about this here).
