ANZ announces further Suncorp Bank job losses – urgent FSU meetings

ANZ has announced a significant restructure within Suncorp Bank, which will result in 197 roles being impacted and potentially 66 job losses, most of them in Brisbane.

These changes are occurring within the Suncorp Bank Consumer Distribution, Business Banking, Everyday Banking, Strategic Delivery and Corporate Affairs, and Home Lending departments.

Urgent consultation meetings

The FSU is holding consultation sessions for any employees impacted by these changes. These sessions will help you understand your rights, share what support or options you need from ANZ, and discuss next steps.

If you are unable to attend one of these sessions but would like assistance, please reply to this email and we’ll be in touch.

Our rights during consultation

We understand this is an incredibly stressful time for those affected members.

Our Suncorp Bank Enterprise Agreement gives us rights during periods of significant change. Management is required to:

  • consult with you about the introduction of these proposed changes.
  • speak with you about the effects the changes are likely to have on you.
  • consider your feedback and any proposed alterations you have.
  • implement measures to avert or mitigate the adverse effects of the changes.

Consultation on these proposed changes closes on Tuesday 3 February.

By using our collective voice during this period, we can effect real change. Please encourage your colleagues to get involved by sharing this email with them.

Federal Government’s conditions of sale

In approving the sale of Suncorp Bank to ANZ, the Federal Government imposed certain conditions, including (for three years after the sale):

  • no regional ANZ or Suncorp Bank will be closed
  • no changes will be made to the number of Suncorp branches in Queensland
  • no net job losses.

We are concerned that these changes, and the proposed job losses, do not meet this final commitment.

Our union is calling on the Federal Government to step in and hold CEO Nuno Matos accountable.

If you’re not yet a member of our union, please join today to ensure you receive the support and assistance you need during this difficult period.
