ANZ’s branch closures and cuts – consultation and support

This week ANZ announced further branch closures across the retail network in Victoria – Brimbank and The Pines. ANZ has indicated these branches will close in March and will result in 14 roles being made redundant.

Furthermore, ANZ has also announced changes to the branch network in regional Northern NSW, which will result in the roll out of a hub and spoke model centralising the role of the Branch Manager. Unfortunately, this means branch manager positions are proposed to be reduced from five to two.

Your rights and entitlements

We understand these changes are devastating and have a real impact on people’s lives.

Mandatory consultation with staff commences today for a week. If you are affected by these changes, you have rights and the FSU is here to support and protect you.

During the consultation, the FSU will engage with ANZ to ensure they deliver on their obligations and uphold the entitlements of affected employees.

Time for regulatory change

Both these devastating announcements are yet another overt measure by ANZ to cut costs at the expense of local communities and staff.

The unacceptable reality is that the bank can make these decisions without considering the broader impact on communities because of the current lack of regulation.

We recently wrote to Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers, urging the government to implement therecommendations of the banking report and finally start holding the banks to account. Now is the time for the government to act and we will continue to pressure the Government until they do.
