ANZ’s job cuts are a psychosocial risk – tell us how they’re affecting you

ANZ’s decision to cut 3,500 jobs has created widespread uncertainty across the bank, leaving thousands of workers anxious, overworked, and under pressure. Major change like this that is poorly managed has real consequences for our mental health, wellbeing, and job security.

We need to make sure the human impact of ANZ’s decisions isn’t ignored. Your experiences matter and they must be heard.

What is a psychosocial risk

A psychosocial risk is any aspect of work or workplace management that causes stress and may lead to psychological or physical harm. When stress is frequent or severe, it can cause:

  • Psychological harm – anxiety, depression, or sleep disturbance.
Physical harm – fatigue, chronic stress injuries, or other health problems.

Sudden restructures, confusing communication or chaotic decisions made without consultation can create serious psychosocial risks. These are not just “HR issues”, they are work health and safety hazards.

Your rights

You don’t have to simply “cope” with harmful or unsafe management practices. You have the right to a safe and healthy workplace.

You have the right to:

  • Be consulted about any change that affects your job, workload, or health and safety.
  • Work in an environment where psychosocial risks, including poor change management, are identified and controlled.
  • Speak up about stress or workload concerns without fear of reprisal.
  • Access support and information to help manage the impact of workplace change.

ANZ’s obligations

ANZ has a legal duty of care under work health and safety laws to eliminate or minimise psychosocial risks arising from its decisions.

This duty is not optional; it is a clear legal requirement.

If ANZ fails to meet these obligations, it’s not simply “poor management.” It’s a serious breach of health and safety laws and a failure of duty to its workforce.

Your voice is vital. By sharing your experience, you’ll help expose the human cost of ANZ’s cuts and strengthen our campaign for transparency, genuine consultation, and meaningful support.
