Aware Super’s offer doesn’t cut it. Are you prepared to vote no?

As it currently stands, Aware Super’s draft Enterprise Agreement is not good enough.

The FSU, CPSU and bargaining representatives do not support it, but are working hard to secure the best outcome possible – however negotiations are proving difficult.

Here are our outstanding items and what we are still calling for:

  • Pay: We rejected management’s $1000 cost-of-living payment and requested that everyone’s base salary increase by $1000 instead. We are seeking pay rises of 5%, 4% and 3.5%.
  • Term: We are seeking a three-year Agreement.
  • Redundancy entitlements to accrue at three weeks for each year of service, with a cap of 52 weeks.
  • Superannuation contributions increased to 13%.
  • Paid parental leave to commence within 12 months of the birth of the baby. Parental leave to increase each year of the Agreement (20, 21 and 22 weeks).
  • Overtime: We cannot agree to management’s proposed thresholds for groups 4 and 5. Contact centre workers must also be able to access overtime without prior permission when on a call.
  • Christmas shut down: Employees to take paid leave over this period, capped at three days.

Aware Super is considering the $1000 increase to base salary, the wording of the parental leave clause, and the contact centre overtime issue. However, management has indicated they are not prepared to move on the rest.

Therefore, we may need to be prepared to vote no to management’s offer if they fail to improve their position. A majority of employees rejecting the offer would send a strong message that we are serious about securing an Agreement the respects us and acknowledges our work.

What questions would you ask Aware Super’s CEO?

Aware Super’s annual member meeting is taking place tomorrow (Thursday 20 November) – a perfect opportunity to put our questions to the board.

Let us know what you’d like us to ask CEO Deanne Stewart about your pay and conditions by replying to this email.

We want Aware Super to be Australia’s number one fund – and that starts with management providing employees with pay and conditions that remain competitive with the rest of our sector.

We’ll have more to say as negotiations continue. Keep an eye out for more important updates coming soon!
