Bendigo branch closures – FSU support

Bendigo Bank has announced it will close 10 branches from August – October 2025, impacting 39 roles, with some jobs being relocated while others will be made redundant.

The closure of five of these branches will mean these communities will be without a bank, period. These towns are Bannockburn, Korumburra and Yarram (Victoria), Malanda (Queensland), and Queenstown (Tasmania).

The other five branch closures are Kings Meadows (Tasmania), Tully (Queensland), and Ballarat Central, Malop Street and South Melbourne (Victoria).

This is an incredibly disturbing development and does not bode well for the future of Bendigo Bank’s presence in regional Australia.

If you are affected by these closures and require support, contact your FSU Organiser Lochie Curran at [email protected]. Remember, whether it’s a relocation or a redundancy, you do have rights and entitlements, and the FSU is here to assist you.

Lawmakers can stop this

Bendigo Bank is abandoning local communities, and we have written to CEO Richard Fennel to express our objection.

We are also contacting local communities and writing to politicians who represent those five communities who stand to lose their very last bank.

It is their constituents who will be left without an essential banking service unless our lawmakers step in and implement the recommendations of the Senate Rural and Regional Affairs Inquiry into regional bank closures – including forcing banks to provide a genuine rationale for closing branches and to consult with local communities. Find out more here.

Having no banking services is simply not good enough, especially when it comes to vulnerable people who cannot switch to online services. If these closures go ahead, it will be up to our politicians to explain how and why they allowed it to happen.
