In a disappointing move, Bupa has decided to walk away from its nine-day fortnight trial.
Our survey of FSU members last month showed an overwhelming 99% of us support more access to the trial. Many of us commented that flexibility helped with work life balance. Unfortunately, Bupa has ignored this feedback.
The compressed nine-day fortnight will continue for employees in the contact centre, with a capacity of 50 people on a rotating basis. To provide any feedback regarding this, please reach out to your colleague and FSU Workplace Representative Sara Lukic.
In the short term, it is unclear how Bupa plans to address work flexibility for employees. A vague statement about “working on the best ways to support flexibility at Bupa” does not instil much confidence.
However, we will have a golden opportunity to push for better work flexibility when we start negotiations for our new Enterprise Agreement (EA) next year.
It was during negotiations for our current EA that we secured this trial, and it remains our union’s position that employers across the sector should adopt flexible arrangements, such as nine-day fortnights.
The biggest factor in determining how successful we are in these negotiations will be union membership at Bupa. Put simply, management is more likely to offer us a better deal if their employees are all members of our union.
Join our union now to help us get there and to ensure you’re protected.
