As a result of negotiations and FSU member action over the last few months, BUPA employees have won a proposed Enterprise Agreement (EA) that guarantees competitive pay increases and improvements to conditions.
Some of these include:
Pay increases:
- A guaranteed 13% pay increase over three years (5% + 4.5% + 3.5%) for employees below minimum base salary for Zone 6. This is in addition to the existing variable pay increase arrangements.
- A guaranteed 9.5% over three years (4% + 3% + 2.5%)* for employees at or above the minimum base salary for Zone 6. This is in addition to the existing variable pay increase arrangements.
- Guaranteed pay increases are backdated to first pay period after 1 January 2024.
*The minimum base salary for Zone 6 is as follows: January 2024: $82,019, January 2025: $84,480, January 2026: $86,592
Improvements to conditions:
- Working from home arrangements are now recognised in the EA with the right to disconnect.
- The introduction of two days paid First Nations leave.
- The introduction of a public holiday substitution for the use of cultural/religious purposes.
- Paid parental leave has increased to 14 weeks, and superannuation will be paid on all periods of parental leave.
- Paid parental leave conditions are gender neutral.
- The introduction of 10 days paid gender affirmation paid leave, plus 12 months unpaid leave. The 10 days are to be paid at employee’s full rate of pay.
Next steps
The new EA proposal will go to a ballot on Tuesday 12 March, 9am (AEDT) and close on Friday 15 March, 5pm (AEDT). All BUPA employees who are covered by the EA will have a chance to vote.
You should have already received an email from BUPA containing a draft of the EA and other relevant information. It is important you read this information prior to voting.
You can also access this information through your BUPA intranet platform, Workvivo. If you have not received this information, please speak with your leader.
We recommend that members vote Yes, as this EA represents a significant improvement in pay and conditions at BUPA.
This result shows that when we stand together with our colleagues, we build better workplaces. There is much more that can be achieved with strong, active union members.
This outcome is just the start. Today is the best time to join if you’re not already a member. Or ask a colleague to join!
