As a result of negotiations over the last few months, BUPA employees now have an Enterprise Agreement (EA) proposal that will provide competitive pay and improvements to conditions.
Union meetings and discussions were held over the last 2 weeks to consider a package of improvements secured by FSU members and your FSU Bargaining team. While a number of issues were raised that are enforceable under the current and proposed Agreements, FSU members overwhelmingly endorsed the improvements outlined in the package.
Together we have significantly improved pay at BUPA and delivered a number of improvements to conditions. These include:
- A guaranteed 13% pay increase over three years for all employees who fall under the base Zone 6 base salary threshold of $82,019. This is in addition to the usual variable payments (bonuses) that will continue to be provided to all employees.
- A guaranteed 9.5% pay increase to employees who fall above the base Zone 6 threshold which again is in addition to the existing variable pay component.
- Hybrid working arrangements recognised in the EA for the first time.
- The introduction of two days paid First Nations leave and an allowance for public holiday substitution for cultural/religious purposes.
- An increase to 14 weeks for paid parental leave and for superannuation to be provided for all periods of paid parental leave.
- The introduction of 10 days paid gender affirmation leave plus 12 months of unpaid leave for employees who are affirming their gender.
You can find a full summary of the EA proposal here.
Next steps
The FSU and BUPA will soon discuss the timeframe for an all-staff ballot. Your union will provide further details and a full copy of the proposed EA in due course. The FSU will hold information sessions to answer any outstanding questions about our new EA and the ballot process, so keep an eye out for further details.
What can you do?
This result shows that when we stand together with our colleagues, we build better workplaces.
Winning a better deal in our Enterprise Agreement is just the start – much more can be achieved at BUPA with strong, active union members. So today is the best time to join if you’re not already a member, or ask a colleague to join!
