National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday 6 July to Sunday 13 July 2025) to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
This year, NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. This year’s theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.
You can learn more about the history of NAIDOC Week here.
All Australians have a unique chance to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.
Switching your 26 January public holiday
If you previously chose to work on the 26 January public holiday and opted to take a different day off instead (an entitlement negotiated by the FSU in numerous enterprise agreements), NAIDOC Week presents the perfect opportunity to do so and celebrate First Nations culture – find out more here.
