FSU members win new Health and Safety Rep (HSR) positions at Insignia – get involved

Nominations are now open for 10 Health and Safety Representative (HSR) positions and six Deputy HSR positions across Insignia work groups.

Nominations close on Wednesday 28 May, 5pm (AEST).

This is a significant win for FSU members. Health and Safety Committees and elected HSRs give workers a strong voice on the health, safety and wellbeing issues that affect us at work.

Why HSRs matter

HSRs are important because they provide workers with a direct, elected voice on health and safety matters.

As nominations open, members now have the opportunity to nominate and, if required, vote for representatives who can raise hazards, act on risks and hold management accountable for preventing harm before it occurs.

This includes physical safety risks as well as psychosocial risks like excessive workloads, understaffing, unreasonable hours and inadequate change processes.

A strong HSR network can help turn individual concerns into action and ensure workplace safety is driven by the experiences of workers on the ground.

Deputy HSR positions are also available. Deputy HSRs have access to the same powers and training, but are only required to step in when the primary HSR is unavailable or on leave.

Training and support

HSRs are entitled to paid time to attend formal training on their rights and responsibilities, including how to represent colleagues on workplace health and safety matters.

The FSU will also support members who nominate and are elected into these important roles.

Next steps

Insignia has sent an email to all colleagues with details on how to nominate for a HSR or Deputy HSR position.

As a union member, you have already shown that you care about your collagues and want to make your workplace better. If you are passionate about creating the safest workplace possible, we encourage you to take the next step and nominate for a Health and Safety Representative position.
