We heard from many of you ahead of negotiations for our new Enterprise Agreement (EA), and the message was clear. Workers at Hostplus are working excessive hours, and it is creating significant risks to our health and safety.
Many EAs provide paid overtime or guaranteed TOIL when additional hours are worked. Not only does this compensate us for our extra time, but it also means employers are accountable for the extra work being performed.
At Hostplus, however, we do not have a right to receive any compensation for working more than 38 hours a week. We can only request TOIL, and it’s subject to Group Executive approval.
With clauses like this, it is easy to see why there is a culture of unpaid overtime and excessive workloads at Hostplus – and it is no surprise that management has shown no appetite to change it.
So what can we do about it?
We are currently in negotiations for our new EA at Hostplus, and we are fighting for fair overtime entitlements for all.
The FSU is calling for:
- Paid overtime for all additional hours worked for people earning up to the high income threshold (currently $183,100); and
- TOIL for all additional hours worked for people earning over the high income threshold.
This is a vital issue to resolve during these negotiations. We cannot support any proposed EA unless it contains fair overtime entitlements.
Have your say
Hostplus management claims that unpaid overtime is not an issue, so we need to hear from you.
