Our position on RDOs and how to request access to them

The results from our union poll about RDOs at the RBA are in – and your responses will inform how we approach discussions with management going forward as we try to secure a fairer RDO scheme.

Here is our union’s position on RDOs at the RBA, as guided by you:

  • All eligible employees should be able to opt in to the RDO arrangement.
  • Part-time employees should be able to opt in to a pro-rata RDO arrangement.
  • Employees currently on the RDO arrangement should be able to opt out and receive the 5% salary increase previously provided to other employees. This should also apply to employees who have shifted to part-time but are still listed under the RDO arrangements.

Would you like to access RDOs?

So far, there has been no communication from the RBA on their original proposal for RDOs since our union provided them with member feedback.

In the meantime, employees continue to have the choice to opt in or out of the RDO scheme.

If you would like to access the RDO scheme, we encourage you to submit a request to your manager. Use our template request email (at the end of this page) and send it to your line manager.

FSU members can contact our union’s Members Rights Centre on 1300 366 378 if you need support with this request.

Please keep in mind:

  • While there is no obligation under our Enterprise Agreement (EA) for the RBA to provide access to RDOs for part-time employees, it doesn’t preclude this either. Full access for part timers can only happen if we secure this right during negotiations for our next EA (due mid 2026) and if a majority of members call for it.
  • Our current EA clearly states that shiftworkers cannot access RDOs at all. Again, this can only change through EA negotiations.
  • If you previously received a salary increase after having your RDO access removed, your salary may be decreased if you receive RDO access again.
  • Granting access to RDOs is subject to the RBA’s work requirements.

We know the RBA wants to get rid of RDOs one way or another. If we want to protect them, it’s critical that all affected employees are engaged.
