Despite clear feedback from RBA employees that many of us value the flexibility and work/life balance that RDOs provide, the RBA is pushing ahead with a proposal to strip them away.
RBA employees already have the choice under our Enterprise Agreement to opt out of the RDO scheme. However, management is now exceeding its reach by proposing to remove RDOs altogether.
The FSU has commenced a dispute with RBA calling on management to suspend any further progression of its proposal, which we say is not permitted under the Agreement.Should RBA continue to advance this proposal, we will have no choice but to escalate this dispute to the Fair Work Commission.
In the meantime, we urge members not to agree to any proposed changes to flexible work arrangements and RDOs until this issue has been resolved. The best way to stay informed about this issue and provide feedback is to join our dedicated FSU RDO group chat.

Here are some important things you need to know about RDOs at the RBA:
- While not everyone uses RDOs, they are an entitlement in our current Agreement and RBA cannot simply remove or change the RDO clause during the term of the EA.
- Management says the RDO scheme is no longer “fit for purpose”. However, employees are being asked to give this up despite the scheme not being correctly administered for years.
- A one-off 5% salary increase completely ignores one of the main purposes of RDOs for those employees who rely on them – to provide flexibility for things like personal appointments and family responsibilities. Management’s proposal which removes RDOs and then asks you to dip into your existing leave entitlements does not add up.
