Staff at St George NSW branches were alarmed when they received their new uniforms recently – they quickly realised the material was see-through.
FSU member Malin Solberg was one of the first to raise concerns with our union.
“The first thing I noticed when we received the new uniforms at my branch was how translucent they were,” Malin said.
“I brought them home to try on and was absolutely flabbergasted.
“You could see my undergarments. Black or white, it did not matter.”
Malin reached out to her fellow union members. She said the response was overwhelming… and concerningly, there were reports that some staff were being required to wear the new shirts.
On the advice of the FSU, Malin and her colleagues raised the issue collectively with their managers.
“Within a week the news came out that we did not have to wear our new uniforms,” Malin said.
As an interim measure, workers who wish to wear the new uniforms can order camisoles free of charge and wear them under their shirts. New uniforms are expected in 2026.
“The quick turnaround was such a fantastic example of what we can achieve when we rally together,” said Malin.
“Experiences like this make me proud and excited to be a union member!”
