This is what winning at Aware Super looks like!

“Without the FSU helping Aware Super staff raise our concerns together, we wouldn’t have won this successful outcome. It’s a great result that gives us all more certainty over our roles and has highlighted why it’s always better to work together through our union.” – Jess Wason, FSU member

When it comes to changes being made to our roles at work, consultation is key – in fact, it’s a requirement for management, because of our Aware Super Services Enterprise Agreement 2022, which was last negotiated by the FSU.

During a recent training session, FSU members in the Member Engagement Team (MET) at Aware Super were told about a permanent change to their roles. It would mean a small change creeping into their roles without proper consultation. Over time, these changes could significantly modify their roles and undercut their career paths.

Members approached the FSU, and together we raised a dispute regarding management’s lack of consultation.

Here’s what we won

With the support of the FSU, members worked collaboratively with management and achieved a successful outcome. Ultimately, management agreed that:

  • there would be no permanent role changes.
  • these roles could opt out of the campaign work staff were being asked to do.
  • additional support and training would be supplied if they did participate in the campaign work.
  • Operational Key Requirements would not be negatively impacted because of this campaign work.

It’s a great win, and one that highlights what we can achieve when we work together.

It’s also the kind of collaborative approach we’ll need to secure the wages and conditions we want from our upcoming Enterprise Agreement negotiations.

Negotiations for this kick off soon. To help us win, let us know how you’d like to stay in the loop about important updates regarding Aware Super negotiations by completing the form below.
