We understand that AustralianSuper has asked some employees to sign a consent to background screening, which involves intrusive and unnecessary information about your personal life being disclosed.
We strongly urge members not to sign this and wait until further notice from our union.
This background screening information includes:
- Gap activities, including travel
- Health information, including drug tests
- Mentions in online or print media
- Other people’s opinions about your performance or character
- Social media activity.
All this information can be shared with third parties and will be stored offshore.
While some background screening is needed for regulatory compliance, this is an intrusive and unnecessary request from AustralianSuper, with apparently no alternative for employees than to agree.
Our union has written to AustralianSuper demanding an explanation. We will let you know as soon as we hear back.
In the meantime, the FSU is here to support you if you have concerns about this issue. Members can contact us on [email protected] or call 1300 366 378.
