Hostplus: Say NO to working overtime for free

We’ve been negotiating for months in good faith with Hostplus for our new Enterprise Agreement and have made good progress on many areas.

But management’s proposed overtime clause is a complete disgrace and we must reject it.

We strongly encourage Hostplus employees to vote ‘no’ when the ballot opens on Wednesday 6 May.

The proposed overtime clause would result in some of the lowest paid Hostplus employees working up to 50 hours a week without any additional compensation. In other words, you would only qualify for additional pay if you were required to work more than 50 hours a week – and that’s only if your People Leader’s Manager directs you to do so in writing, in advance.

No amount of spin can get around the fact that this would be one of the worst overtime clauses in any enterprise agreement in our sector. We simply cannot allow it to happen!

Will you commit to vote ‘no’ when the ballot opens next Wednesday? There’s still time for Hostplus to come to their senses, but we need to make it clear that we are not prepared to work overtime for free.

Unfortunately, the overtime debacle is just one of several issues with management’s proposal. There’s also issues with our right to request a pay review, no right to work from home, no protections around AI, and the list goes on.

The ballot will open from Wednesday 6 May, 9am to Thursday 7 May, 5pm. While we’d love to encourage members to support it – it would be fundamentally wrong for our union to support a proposed Agreement that allows employees to work overtime for free.

If you have any queries or concerns, please reply to this email and we’ll be in touch. Otherwise, stay tuned for further updates.
